ISU post

I am reading Through Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden. He is a Canadian novelist who has wrote books like Three Day Road. Through Black Spruce is a story about a native family in Moosefactory struggling with alcoholism, biker gangs, native prejudices and modern assimilation. Joseph Boyden is also native making him connected to the text. He makes references to the residential schools which was a major event plaguing native people. He also makes references to modernization of native music. His knowledge of new and old native culture adds to the novel.

  1. Sam, I read this last week, but I don't know where my comment went! What specific examples from the novel demonstrate your assertions? Are any of the events based on events from Boyden's life?
